Welcome to the world’s Green School

“Green School in Bali, Indonesia is giving its students a relevant, holistic and green education in one of the most amazing environments on the planet.

We invite you to look around our site and find out more about our school, our campus and our mission – you can sign up to book a tour of the school, leave your feedback in the comments section of any article or blog post and learn how you can contribute to the school, Bali and our beautiful Earth”.

Our Mission

Learning for our future

Green school student studies bamboo

If we are to believe just a small proportion of the statistics we are hearing and seeing about the destruction of our planet, individuals need to take a more responsible approach – and education is the key starting point. Our aim is to develop responsible and green habits in these young people which will be with them for life.

Given the economic mess that our world has created in recent times, an education system which produces more of the same is not going to work.  Something has to change, and Green School is at the cutting edge therefore of being able to do things differently.

An education at Green School is preparation for Green Leadership of tomorrow.  Our students will be the confident generation that wants to, and can, make a difference.

Green School aims to be the #1 model of sustainability in education in the world.  We aim to set the bar so high for others to aspire to. After only two years of operation, Green School is already shaking up the thinking of more conventional organisations and institutions around the world.  Its teachers, students and their parents are proud to be part of this pioneering ‘work in progress’.

What next

This is Green School number one. We built it as a seed, a model, for Bali, and the world. We encourage you to copy it, to reinvent it, and to reproduce it. Just make sure you keep  these simple rules in mind:  be local,  let your environment inform your decisions, and  think about how your grandchildren might be influenced by your decisions. If you are interested in starting green school number two, we would love to hear from you.

Robby comment: Lots of schools teach nontraditional methods and have brighter more creative kids. This is one of them. He is attempting to self power his school. It is designed with his climate in mind and has real sunlight incorporated in his school. The school is beautiful. They teach outside sometimes. These are amazing things we can do to have better schools and teach our future in better ways. Kids deserve things like this.

Robby comment: This is a huge problem. I was in San Fran and I saw a lot of the plastic bags that wash back onshore. There are some islands of plastic and now lots of fish are eating broken down plastics and we are thus eating the fish. This is a big problem lets try and solve this together. Hemp can work as a plastic substitute that does degrade. Lets think about things like this.

To leave it at that would be to miss the point of Couchsurfing. Sure you can travel for free, but the friendships one aquires and the love of great people is what makes this site unique. This is as local as you can get, there are posts, and message boards. Its a community both on the computer and in the real world. If you love freedom and you love Adventure and you want to share that with others this is the place to do it.

Our Mission “Our Mission: Strengthening communities through reciprocity”

The Circle of Giving

Neighbor-to-Neighbor Time Banks

Time Banking is about local individuals helping each other out, one-on-one or with group projects. They help rebuild neighborhood networks and strengthen communities.

Time Banking can be as simple as a group of moms getting together to share carpooling kids to activities. It can also include services like child care, grocery shopping, taking care of elderly parents, walking dogs, and helping out with homework. The kinds of services people share in a Time Bank depend entirely on what their group or community needs. Many Time Banks start small and add services as they go along, but that’s not always the case. In some communities, people have started Time Banks with a particular aim in mind: to create networks of companionship and support for isolated and lonely members of the community—elderly or immigrant groups, for example.

One-on-One exchanges

The following cartoon shows how the exchanges among Time Bank members happen and the kinds of services the members of a Time Bank might exchange.

For a larger image, please click here (pdf)

Stanley and his friends are part of a Time Bank where members exchange services to help one another. The picture shows how members’ exchanges reweave community as they circle round.

How Do One-on-One Exchanges Take Place?

The way the exchanges happen is pretty simple. In a nutshell:Let’s say you need someone to help out in the garden for two hours. If your Time Bank uses our web software, you can find another member and set up the exchange with email. If your Time Bank is not online, all you have to do is call up your Time Bank and tell them what you need and when. Your Time Bank Coordinator will check the member records for a “match,” call them up, and call you to confirm.Your Time Bank friend comes by and helps out in the garden. The time is reported and logged in the Time Bank. You’ve spent two Time Dollars for two hours of garden help. Your friend has two Time Dollars to spend. Some day down the road, you’ll get a call from your Time Bank Coordinator or an email from another member asking you: would YOU like to help someone else or join a community project and earn some Time Dollars? There are Time Banks like Stanley’s all over the world. To see where they are located, take a look at theTimeBanks USA member directory and map in theWhere Do I Start? section of this site.

Robby comment: Great way to help out our neighbors and to have our neighbors help us out. Fantastic service. Great tool for other nonprofits to generate Man/Woman power for things.

- Peta.org “People for the ethical treatment of animals”

Robby comment: Peta is a bit extreme and can come across a bit vigilante, but that said they do have some informative information. Animals need rights and they are abused. Its a bit like Michael Moore strong cases, some good information, biased approach, polarized base. check them out, who knows.

http://www.seastudios.org/supportus.php - Sea Studios Foundation is a nonprofit, 501(C)(3) company. All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

About Us: “Sea Studios Foundation creates innovative strategies that draw on the broad appeal of mass media, such as television and the Internet, along with new media platforms and the power of community events. We begin with extensive research to identify measurable goals and to understand how best to reach diverse audiences—public, business executives, or elected officials—in the US and internationally. Only after rigorous analysis does the creative process begin. To ensure that we make a difference, we routinely use comprehensive evaluations to measure impact.”

Project/ Movie List Here

Robby comment: To be honest I have not watched any of the movies yet. Edward Norton is part of the project which makes me happy, I love him. The trailors look really good though. We might wanna support Nature films because they do give us so much information about both the beauty of our planet and what is going wrong with our planet. That said I think they try to not brow beat you into helping, which is nice i think.
